Putting the Jigsaw Together from the Las Vegas Be Well Conference
When people think of Las Vegas, they often picture bright lights and entertainment. For me, it was three days of learning at two of the world’s leading aesthetic and wellness conferences: The Aesthetic Show and the Be Well Beauty and Wellness Show.
One thing became very clear throughout both events. The future of skin health isn’t about chasing quick fixes. It’s about understanding the whole person and combining the latest technology with good health, personalised care and evidence-based treatments.
One of the biggest topics discussed was the growing impact of GLP-1 weight-loss medications. While these medications are helping many people achieve significant weight loss, practitioners around the world are also seeing an increase in concerns about facial volume loss and skin laxity. Rather than simply treating the visible changes, experts repeatedly emphasised the importance of understanding what’s happening inside the body first. Comprehensive blood testing, assessing nutritional status and evaluating gut health before and during treatment are becoming increasingly important to achieve the best long-term outcomes.
Another clear trend is the move away from relying on a single treatment. Modern aesthetic medicine is embracing personalised combination therapies. Treatments such as microneedling, radiofrequency, ultrasound and other energy-based technologies are being used together, with each selected to suit the individual’s skin, lifestyle and goals.
What fascinated me was the emphasis on tailoring treatments to different parts of the body. Skin doesn’t behave the same everywhere. The face, neck and body all respond differently, meaning treatment plans should be customised rather than adopting a one-size-fits-all approach. It’s another reminder that experience and careful assessment remain just as important as the technology itself.
Perhaps the most exciting shift is the growing connection between aesthetics and overall wellness. Increasingly, practitioners are recognising that healthy, vibrant skin begins long before we apply skincare products or step into a treatment room.
At the Be Well conference, discussions centred on strengthening the skin barrier, supporting collagen production and improving health from the inside out. Nutrition, targeted supplementation, gut health and healthy daily habits were consistently recognised as playing an important role in achieving lasting skin health.
This is something I’ve often spoken about with my own clients. Healthy skin isn’t created by one miracle treatment. Instead, it’s like putting together a jigsaw puzzle, where every piece contributes to the final picture. Sleep, nutrition, stress management, skincare, professional treatments and overall health all work together to influence how our skin looks and feels.
Hair restoration was another rapidly growing area of interest. Rather than simply treating thinning hair itself, clinicians are increasingly investigating possible underlying causes, including nutritional deficiencies and imbalances within the gut microbiome. Identifying and addressing those contributing factors can often produce far better long-term results than focusing only on the symptoms.
The messages I brought home from Las Vegas was both reassuring and exciting. The industry is moving towards a more thoughtful, personalised approach that focuses on long-term skin health rather than short-term cosmetic changes. It’s about helping people age well, feel confident and support their overall wellbeing.
One of the things I enjoy most about attending international conferences is seeing how quickly our industry continues to evolve. Every event reminds me that learning never stops, and that’s exactly how it should be. Bringing those insights back to the Northern Beaches means my clients benefit not only from many years of experience, but also from the latest evidence, research and innovations shaping the future of skin health. It’s a privilege to continually learn from some of the world’s leading experts and then apply that knowledge to help people achieve healthier skin and greater confidence.
After three inspiring days, I returned home more convinced than ever that beautiful skin starts with a healthy body. When we combine science, technology and a personalised approach, we can achieve results that not only look natural but also support health and confidence from the inside out.
