Introduction To Electroporation

Electroporation is an alternative (non-surgical) skin treatment first developed in 1952 by Michael Pistor (a French doctor) that helps restore skin elasticity, tone, hydration, and firmness, thus creating smoother skin. Vitamins, peptides, growth factors and exosomes are introduced into the skin’s surface, which triggers increased collagen and elastin production. Collagen and elastin are critical in fighting most signs of ageing, such as fine lines, wrinkles and age spots.

Electroporation, also known as ‘red-carpet facial’, can thus help

  • Reduce wrinkles and fine lines
  • Tighten and smooth skin
  • Improve skin hydration
  • Improve skin tone

Most people will see results immediately, while others may take longer. Depending on the skin concern being treated, one electroporation session might not be enough for this treatment method to work.

Are There Side Effects?

Electroporation is a walk-in, walk-out type of treatment. Each session will last 45 minutes to an hour. While electroporation effectively improves most signs of ageing and skin conditions, the results may vary from one person to another. This is because our bodies are unique and respond differently to elements introduced into the skin.

Electroporation for the Face: What You Need To Know

We all desire to preserve youthful, smooth and radiant skin. Maintaining healthy, youthful, and radiant skin is an unending task, especially once we reach a certain age or are exposed to harsh elements or weather. Eating healthy and exercising might not be enough to prevent fine lines and age spots from appearing on your face. Luckily, electroporation for the face and neck provides a feasible solution for improvement. When done professionally by an experienced aesthetician, electroporation can help restore firm, smooth, radiant skin. The gentle pulsing method uses short, controlled bursts of energy to create microscopic channels in the skin where the active serums will penetrate more efficiently.

Electroporation is a very popular and highly efficient method of infusion of active serums such as exosomes, peptides, growth factors and antioxidants, to name but a few actives. During electroporation, a small nonpainful electrical pulse is used to create temporary pores in cell membranes through which active serums can pass.
Electroporation is a technique in which an electrical field is applied to cells in order to increase the permeability of the membranes, allowing products to be introduced into the cell more efficiently. Its application to the skin has been shown to increase transdermal product delivery by several orders of magnitude.

The Apollo Duet electroporation & iontophoresis handpiece heats the skin up to 45ºC to soften and dilate the skin, significantly improving absorption. In the treatment we usually treat at 34-36 degrees. This will stimulate the heat shock proteins in the skin. Unlike radiofrequency (RF), this method does not cause the tissue to tighten.
In combination with heating or cooling, the electroporation and iontophoresis handpiece guarantees extremely effective infusion of therapeutic hydrophilic electrolytes into deeper skin tissues for maximum therapeutic results – boosting hydration, reducing inflammation, calming irritated skin, brightening and smoothing skin texture.

The electroporation & iontophoresis applicator also cools the skin down to -20ºC,(we usually treat at 10 degrees) calming the skin to facilitate treatment of problematic skin conditions, including irritated, inflamed, and sensitive skin. The cold electroporation will also stimulate the cold shock proteins in the skin, leaving it feeling firm, calm and radiant. Much like the rejuvenating effects of ice baths, the cold electroporation or CryoFacial treatment systematically reduces the skin’s temperature to bolster its immune response and combat environmental stressors. This process significantly boosts collagen formation and enhances lymphatic drainage, culminating in improved skin tone and texture.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Electro-poration suitable for my skin?

Electroporation is suitable for most skin types, especially those who are looking to brighten and deeply hydrate the skin. Electroporation will enhance any skin care routine, increasing the length of result time.

How many sessions of Electro-poration will I need?

We recommend starting with a course of 3 sessions of Electroporation that can be taken weekly or fortnightly for optimum results. After this initial course of treatments, we generally recommend clients to come in every 1-2 months to maintain their results. This may determined by age, skin condition and the desired result.

When will I see results with Electro-poration?

Results can be seen after the first session and will gradually improve over time as more sessions are performed and your homecare regime is followed.

Is there any downtime after Electro-poration?

There is no downtime with electroporation. It is the perfect treatment to be red carpet ready. Despite the technical name, the treatment is surprisingly gentle and relaxing.
