Wrinkle Treatment

The rate at which the facial ageing process takes effect varies from person to person. No one factor is the cause of facial ageing and wrinkles, but the main elements that cause the face to age and wrinkle include bone changes, fat, collagen and elastin loss. These are both genetically and environmentally influenced.

By definition, a wrinkle is a line, furrow, crease or depression in the skin’s surface. Wrinkles form due to a combination of factors- sun damage, habitual facial expressions (frowning, smiling, squinting), smoking, genetic disposition, lifestyle and as a part of the natural ageing process.

Wrinkles fall into 2 main categories: Dynamic and Static wrinkles.

  • Dynamic wrinkles are formed by the repeated muscle contraction involved in facial movement.
  • Static wrinkles are formed during the normal ageing process and environmental influences.

Prevention coupled with state of the art treatments can be key in lessening the signs of ageing and wrinkles. While some factors like bone changes can’t be prevented, others like fat, collagen and elastin loss can be minimized. Lifestyle choices like diet and sun exposure can also have an important impact on the speed at which these factors come in to play.
